Vietnam’s economy delivered a strong performance in 2025, marked by robust GDP growth, record-breaking trade volumes, and a significant rise in average income, reinforcing the country’s position as one of Asia’s fastest-growing emerging markets.

Vietnam GDP Growth in 2025

Vietnam’s gross domestic product maintained high momentum throughout 2025. GDP growth in the third quarter reached an estimated 8.23 percent year on year, while growth for the first nine months stood at approximately 7.85 percent. For the full year, Vietnam’s GDP growth is projected to exceed 8 percent, well above the government’s initial target range of 6.5 to 7 percent.

In nominal terms, Vietnam’s GDP is estimated at around 510 billion US dollars, equivalent to roughly 12.7 quadrillion Vietnamese dong at the current exchange rate. This places Vietnam among the world’s 35 largest economies and highlights its expanding economic scale.

GDP per Capita Reaches 5,000 USD

Vietnam’s GDP per capita reached an estimated 5,000 US dollars per person in 2025, equivalent to about 125 million Vietnamese dong. This marks a new income threshold and confirms Vietnam’s steady transition deeper into the upper-middle-income group, supported by industrial growth, exports, and rising domestic consumption.

Record-Breaking Trade and Export Performance

Vietnam’s external trade was a major driver of growth in 2025. Total import and export turnover is estimated at around 920 billion US dollars, up nearly 16.9 percent compared with 2024. The country maintained a strong trade surplus of more than 21 billion US dollars, equivalent to approximately 525 trillion Vietnamese dong, contributing to exchange rate stability and foreign reserve accumulation.

Key export sectors included electronics, machinery, textiles, footwear, and agricultural products, with continued diversification across major markets in Asia, North America, and Europe.

Trade and Investment Outlook

Vietnam continued to attract substantial foreign direct investment, particularly in high-value sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. The combination of stable macroeconomic conditions, competitive labor costs, and expanding infrastructure has strengthened Vietnam’s role in global supply chains.

In 2025, Vietnam’s economy demonstrated resilience and acceleration at the same time. Strong GDP growth, record trade volumes, and rising GDP per capita underline the country’s growing economic maturity. Despite global uncertainties in trade and geopolitics, Vietnam remains a key destination for investment and a dynamic hub for international trade in Southeast Asia.
