Starting in 2026, Vietnam will roll out free HPV vaccination for girls, beginning in four provinces representing different regions and prioritizing disadvantaged areas: Tuyên Quang, Quảng Ngãi, Đắk Lắk, and Trà Vinh (now Vĩnh Long).

Girls aged 11 in these localities will receive the vaccine as part of the expanded immunization program, with an estimated 18,000 children reached annually during the 2026–2028 period.

The Ministry of Health stated that the HPV vaccine demand over the next three years will be based on the registration of needs from 34 provinces, including regular doses and catch-up doses for children who missed vaccination in previous years. Vaccine distribution will follow the schedule reported to the Government regarding demand and funding for the 2021–2030 period.

Currently, HPV vaccines in Vietnam are very expensive, costing tens of millions of Vietnamese dong per dose (around 400 USD) for the 9-strain HPV vaccine. The type of vaccine to be given free of charge has not yet been specified regarding the number of strains it covers, but the primary goal is to prevent cervical cancer caused by HPV.
