Vietnamese businesses are concerned about the impact of the 46% countervailing tariff imposed by the U.S. on Vietnamese goods, especially in industries like agricultural products, electronics, and textiles. This tariff will reduce the competitiveness of Vietnamese products compared to those from countries with lower tariffs, such as Thailand and Indonesia. Exporting companies, such as Vina T&T, believe that if the tariff is too high, U.S. partners may shift to buying products from other countries. This could result in significant losses for Vietnam’s export turnover.
Experts suggest that to minimize the negative impact, Vietnam needs to strengthen negotiations with the U.S. to achieve a more reasonable tariff rate. Possible solutions include increasing imports from the U.S. to reduce the tariff gap or promoting public procurement contracts with the U.S., such as for helicopters, airplanes, and electrical equipment. The government also needs to support businesses by diversifying export markets and improving domestic consumption.
