Quá khứ đơn và quá khứ hoàn thành khác nhau như thế nào?

Nhiều học sinh lúng túng không biết quá khứ đơn và quá khứ hoàn thành khác nhau như thế nào? Đơn giản thôi: Quá khứ đơn nói về hành động đã xảy ra và kết thúc trong quá khứ. Quá khứ hoàn thành nói về hành động đã xảy ra trước một hành động khác trong quá khứ.

1. Quá khứ đơn (Past Simple)

• Khi nào dùng?
  Dùng để nói về một hành động đã xảy ra và kết thúc trong quá khứ.
  Ví dụ:
  • I ate breakfast at 7 a.m. (Tôi đã ăn sáng lúc 7 giờ sáng.)
  • They went to the park yesterday. (Họ đã đi công viên hôm qua.)
• Dấu hiệu nhận biết:
  Các từ thường đi kèm: yesterday, last week, last year, ago, in 1990…

2. Quá khứ hoàn thành (Past Perfect)

• Khi nào dùng?
  Dùng để nói về một hành động xảy ra trước một hành động khác hoặc một thời điểm trong quá khứ.
  Ví dụ:
  • By the time I arrived, they had finished dinner. (Khi tôi đến, họ đã ăn tối xong rồi.)
  • She had left before the party started. (Cô ấy đã rời đi trước khi bữa tiệc bắt đầu.)
• Dấu hiệu nhận biết:
  Các từ thường đi kèm: before, after, by the time, already…

So sánh nhanh

• Quá khứ đơn: Tập trung vào hành động trong quá khứ.
• Quá khứ hoàn thành: Tập trung vào thứ tự xảy ra của các hành động (hành động nào xảy ra trước).

Ví dụ minh họa:

• I ate lunch before you arrived. (Tôi ăn trưa trước khi bạn đến.)
• I had eaten lunch before you arrived. (Tôi đã ăn trưa xong trước khi bạn đến.)
  Ở câu thứ hai, việc “ăn trưa” được nhấn mạnh là đã hoàn thành trước hành động “bạn đến”.

Bài tập chia động từ

Bài 1: Chia động từ trong ngoặc theo đúng thì (Past Simple hoặc Past Perfect).

1. When I (arrive) at the station, the train (already/leave).
2. She (not/finish) her homework before the teacher (ask) for it.
3. They (eat) all the pizza by the time we (get) there.
4. I (see) that he (lose) his wallet when I talked to him.
5. After they (clean) the house, they (go) out for dinner.

Bài 2: Sắp xếp câu đúng thứ tự.

1. already / the exam / by the time / had / started / I / arrived.
2. dinner / before / she / eaten / had / they / arrived.
3. left / after / we / the party / went.
4. not / the train / by the time / arrived / left / had / we.
5. the floor / the children / cleaned / after / played / they.

Bài 3: Điền các từ sau: before, after, already, by the time vào chỗ trống:

1. She had cleaned the room ____ her guests arrived.
2. They had ____ prepared the food when we came.
3. I saw her ____ I finished my homework.
4. ____ he called me, I had gone to bed.
5. We had not finished the project ____ the teacher checked.
