Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged France, particularly Électricité de France (EDF), to invest in nuclear power projects and support green energy development in Vietnam.

During a meeting with French Ambassador Olivier Brochet and EDF VP Erkki Maillard, Pham reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to reviving the Ninh Thuan 1 and 2 nuclear power plants. He emphasized Vietnam’s preference for partners committed to technology transfer and urged EDF to assist in policy development, human resource training, and financial support.

Ambassador Brochet highlighted EDF’s experience in Vietnam’s energy sector, citing successful projects like Phu My 2 and Son My 1 power plants. He reaffirmed France’s commitment to expanding renewable energy cooperation.

On the same day, Pham met European Investment Bank (EIB) VP Nicola Beer, proposing a new ODA agreement with larger funding, lower interest rates, and simplified procedures to support energy transition and infrastructure projects. He also called for green finance solutions and financial center development.

Beer confirmed the EIB’s commitment to supporting technology transfer, human resource training, and financial modernization for Vietnam’s sustainable growth.
