Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued a directive ordering ministries to accelerate the shift to electric vehicles and clean fuels, citing geopolitical tensions that threaten the country’s imported energy supplies.
Under the directive dated March 19, the Ministry of Finance must finalize tax incentives for EV production and use by June. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has been tasked with reviewing conditions to switch to E10 biofuel by April, two months ahead of schedule, with the goal of cutting mineral gasoline consumption by 10%. Public transport and government vehicles will also be gradually electrified.
The government aims to complete regulations on EV battery collection and recycling by the third quarter of this year.
