Vietnam plans to spend nearly $573 million to build a nationwide traffic data, monitoring and management system by 2030, after Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed the approving decision.

The two-tier system will be centrally coordinated by the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, with provincial police operating local hubs. By 2028, all operational expressways will be covered by surveillance cameras, expanding to national highways and urban roads by 2030, with AI processing data in real time. By 2050, the system will extend to railways and waterways.

Funding will come from the state budget, traffic fine revenues and vehicle plate auctions, excluding regular operating costs. The Ministry of Public Security will lead implementation across all agencies.
